File-based News Production & Playout Facilities Delivered to South TV, Ethiopia
20.05.2014, Reading UK: MJO Broadcast has recently completed the design and delivery of file-based news production and playout facilities on behalf of Systems Integrator PBS FZE for regional Ethiopian broadcaster South TV.
South TV provides TV services to the South Nations, Nationalities & People’s Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia with a strong focus on locally produced news and entertainment programming. PBS was awarded the contract to migrate South TV from a tape to file-based operation and launch new HD free-to-air services from new facilities in the region’s capital Hawassa. They chose MJO Broadcast to architect the workflow, the detailed systems design, prepare the installation documentation and to manage the project through to factory acceptance at PBS’s facilities in Sharjah UAE, prior to system installation and commissioning onsite.
The multi-vendor solution we designed and deployed supports a mix of SD and HD operations with an efficient file-based workflows to create, manage, distribute and archive locally produced content – from field acquisition, news editing, news production, automated playout, storage and archive. The system features Panasonic P2 cameras, Avid editing, Pebble Beach video servers, asset management and playout automation; an Octopus newsroom system, broadcast infrastructure and graphics from Ross; NetApp central storage and DiskArchive ALTO digital archive.
