Moving DMI towards an efficient file-based operation.
About the client
Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) is the official public broadcaster for Dubai, UAE and is a major satellite TV broadcaster in the Middle East. Established in 2003, DMI is a pioneering media organisation that through its multiple media channels (press, radio, and TV) focuses on innovation and quality, supporting the strategic objectives of the Government of Dubai. It has achieved remarkable success and prestigious status in the Arab world and reaches international and regional viewers with creative, meaningful, and relevant content – always striving to embody the spirit of originality and modernity.
In 2010, DMI sought to introduce an enterprise-wide file-based workflow that integrated all broadcast operations, in order to bring greater efficiency and enable the growth of their viewer base. The broadcaster needed a scalable solution that could meet future needs, support the addition of HD channels and make the content it generates and acquires available in the digital domain, including delivery to new media platforms.
How MJO Broadcast helped
MJO Broadcast was contracted to help DMI scope, evaluate and select a solution that, from an operational and a technological perspective, would move them into a tapeless environment and deliver their ambitious growth strategy.
We undertook a detailed requirements-capture across all stakeholders in the business, prepared the RFP and managed the evaluation process. Following a review of the responses, we then managed a series of workshops with selected suppliers to help match DMI’s business requirements with the technology available.
Based on our recommendations, DMI has taken a significant step toward adopting a fully file-based “ingest once, use many” workflow, based on leading-edge technologies from Front Porch Digital, Harmonic and Pebble Beach.
The Customer Viewpoint
“The adoption of a file-based workflow was central to our development strategy, and a major investment, so we had to be confident in the proposed solution. MJO Broadcast understood the challenges our business faces, now and in the future. Their in-depth knowledge of the technology available, ability to work closely with our team and their strong management of the RFP process was instrumental to the success of this project.”
